Ocean Calling

Created by artists Jamae Tasker and Sarah McCarthy Grimm after their own personal losses, Ocean Calling stands right on the shore of the Pacific Ocean. Through a large butterfly-shaped window, visitors can see the sea and the horizon, while inside an old black telephone awaits.

Before picking up the receiver, each visitor can drop a small stone into a metal tube — the sound resembles a coin dropping into an old payphone. Once a month, the stones are collected, each one remaining as a small trace of a single “call.”
