An Fón Gaoithe
In 2017, the anonymous artistic collective Altrúchas built the Wind Phone almost at the summit of Two Rock Mountain above Dublin. The telephone booth was made from recycled materials carried up the mountain, and its creators chose to remain anonymous because they wanted the project to exist without personal gain.
Inside, they left a message saying that this is a place for solitude and reflection on life and loss — a place where words can simply be left to the wind.
Just days after appearing, the Wind Phone was destroyed, and the telephone disappeared. Nevertheless, Altrúchas stated that they would not allow what happened to detract from the project’s meaning and positive idea.
The name „An Fón Gaoithe“ means „The Wind Phone“ in Irish.
