Wind Phone at Sunshine Coast Hospice

The story begins in 2022, when Manuen and David Petersen restore a genuine Bakelite telephone from the 1930s and donate it to Sunshine Coast Hospice in memory of Marilyn — “the best grandma.” Their idea is simple and deeply human: children should also have a way to “call” Grandma and Grandpa.

The original telephone proves too delicate to remain outdoors, so today it is kept inside the hospice building. But its idea lives on in the Wind Phone, created later in the garden — a green retro handset in a quiet place surrounded by nature, accessible to everyone at any time.

Sometimes everything begins with an old telephone and the wish to be able to “call” again.
