Create
To create a Wind Phone, you don’t need much. But it’s not enough simply to leave a disconnected telephone somewhere. The place, the silence, the sense of privacy, and the care that follows are all part of it.

- above all
Find a place for it
A Wind Phone needs a place where a person can spend a little time alone. It doesn’t have to be completely hidden, but it should offer enough peace for someone to pick up the receiver and remain with their thoughts without feeling the eyes of the people around them.
A garden, park, forest, or a place by the water — nature often provides exactly this kind of silence.
Don’t simply look for a place for the telephone. Look for a place where a person can be alone with what they carry inside.
If the place isn’t yours, find out who manages it and whether permission is required. Think about the people who will use it as well — the structure and the space around it should be safe.

It doesn’t have to be special
There is no specific model for a Wind Phone. But there’s a reason old rotary phones are the most common choice.
The weight of the receiver in your hand, the coiled cord, the slow turning of the dial, and the familiar click as it returns make the call something tangible. For some people, the telephone itself also carries memories of another time — and of the people they once spoke to on one like it.
Choose a telephone that feels right to you. It doesn’t need to work — and it shouldn’t be connected to the network.

Give it your own form
A Wind Phone has no specific appearance. It can be in a phone booth, beneath a small shelter, on a wooden structure, or look completely different. Its form depends on the place, the climate, and you.
If the telephone will remain outdoors year-round, think about how you will protect it from rain, snow, strong sunlight, and wind. The structure should be stable and safe, but it doesn’t need to be complicated.
You’re not building a monument. You’re creating a place where a person can simply pick up the receiver.
Do you want to make a Wind Phone but don’t know how?
- after you place it
Leave it with care for those who come after you
Wind Phone is a place left for people you do not know as well. Help them understand why it is there, and care for it so that it remains safe, well-maintained, and accessible to the next person.
Leave a few words
Not everyone who comes across Wind Phone will know why it is there. Leave a short note beside it explaining what it is and inviting the person to pick up the receiver. You do not need many words. It is enough to say that the phone is not connected to a network and that it is a place for what someone still wants to say.
Remain part of the place
Creating a Wind Phone does not end on the day you place it. Return to it from time to time. Check whether the phone is still in place, whether the structure is sturdy, and whether the weather has left its mark. Clean, repair, or replace whatever needs attention. Wind Phone is left for strangers, but it needs someone to care for it. If you create one, be the person who looks after it too.
Created a Wind Phone?
Every Wind Phone begins as a personal need, but it can become a place for other people too.
If you have created one in Bulgaria or Eastern Europe, tell me about it. Send photos, the address or coordinates, and its story so I can add it to the website and map.
